An existing 7.5 MW steam turbine generator had antiquated governor / field controls, which impacted on performance. Utility surcharges were being experienced and response was poor on load variation.
Calgary office designed, built, installed, and commissioned new generator controls while the plant continued to run. This involved on-line modification and correction of pre-existing control problems as well as synchronization and performance testing.

Crown Cork and Seal manufactures aluminum cans for various vendors throughout Western Canada. Our Calgary office was designated to specify, supply and install 600V cables and equipment. Equipment was sourced from after market sources as well as new.
The project involved upgrading primary sources including protective devices, transformers and cables. A facility short circuit and co-ordination study was prepared. The necessary loads were added to the existing 600 volt switchgear. Power factor correction capacitors were added to compensate for the new load. Future expansion proposed for this facility is scheduled to be undertaken in 2000.

Our office has assisted through several facility expansions and modernization of equipment. The equipment has been designed and built in direct consultation with the plant and resulted in significant cost savings without sacrificing performance.
The medium voltage synchronous motor controllers incorporate several unique capabilities which were specifically required by the clients process (see products this web site). The power distribution centers were built to match the existing site requirements "5000 volt primary feed - 480 /277 volt secondary loads."
All equipment was pre-manufactured tested and made ready for installation during rather narrow shutdown opportunities. Our Calgary office continues support and technical assistance to the plant as well as annual maintenance and inspections.
